Which problem?
You cannot solve all the problems in the world with one donation. We have already investigated which global issues you can have a major impact on in order to help you do the most good you can. Prioritising these issues is a personal choice for each individual. Read the pros and cons associated with donating to these issues in order to make an informed choice.

Poverty & Health
Global poverty is one of the most pressing problems facing humanity. The poorest people in the world often go hungry, face barriers accessing education and lack basic facilities like electricity. On top of this, disease and ill health is more prevalent in impoverished communities. The eradication of poverty and extreme inequality should be a global top priority.
GiveWell is a renowned non-profit that conducts thorough research into which charities save or improve the most lives per euro donated. Some charities are a hundred times more effective than others! Our selection of recommended charities stems from this evidence-based research.
Climate
inhabitants. Some of these consequences will put basic human rights at risk in regions most affected. Sustainable development should be a global priority but the reality is that the current climate pledges of many countries are not sufficient to keep temperatures below critical thresholds.
Charities that work to turn the tide against uncontrolled climate change vary significantly in their effectiveness. In order to select the best charities we follow the recommendations of Founders Pledge.
Animal welfare & food transition
In order to eliminate hunger in the world the global food system must change dramatically. The current farmed animal industry must make way for alternative sources of protein. Currently, a large amount of agricultural product yield is used as feed for livestock bred for human consumption. This is a waste of valuable plant-based food resources and contributes to animal suffering and climate change.
Some charities working on animal welfare or the food system transition are hundreds or even thousands of times more effective than others. We therefore base our recommendations on the work of Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE)
How to give?
There are several ways you can give money to charity. If you already know how you want to give, you can then choose an organisation that suits that method. Decide how you will give by reading more about the different methods of giving.

One-off
Ordinary or one-off donations to an ANBI are deductible if, on an annual basis, they total more than 1% of your combined income (of you and your tax partner, if any) up to a maximum of 10%. Donations are deductible from €60.
Periodic with a gift agreement
The tax authorities describe a periodic gift as: Donations in the form of fixed and regular, periodic payments for at least five years which cease upon death. Periodic gifts are deductible if the donor enters into an obligation to donate a fixed amount for at least five years. This is done through the means of signing a deed known as a ‘schenkingsakte’ . If the beneficiary is registered as an ANBI, your donation will be deductible. For more information, visit the website of the Belastingdienst
Inheritance
Determining the distribution of your estate is done by drawing up a will in the presence of a notary. There are two ways to leave a gift to an effective organisation through your will:
- A bequest makes the organisation (co-)heir to (a part of) the inheritance. The size of this depends on the total size of the estate and the number of heirs. Children can always claim their legitimate share.
- A bequest gives the organisation a fixed amount of money or an asset, such as a house.
We are happy to help if you would like more information, a personal consultation or assistance with notary affairs. The contact person is Andrea de Wildt. She can be reached at andrea@doneereffectief.nl.
Large gifts
In a personal meeting with donors of major gifts, we explore what they want to donate to and advise them on how to do this most effectively. Preference may be given to one or more of our donation areas: poverty/health, climate or animal welfare/food transition. We also discuss the method of donation (one-time or periodic), the possibilities of tax benefits and the transaction method.
We can also put donors in touch with experts in our network who can provide personal customisation if needed.

Which organisations?
In this step you will determine how you are going to make an impact with your donations based on your answers in steps 1 and 2. It is important to first consider what you are already donating to and then make choices for the future.

Increase the impact of your donations
At Doneer Effectief we want to support the most effective interventions and the best charities in the world. We can direct your donation to places where it can have multiple times the impact of an average charity with the same amount of money.
Our selection of our top charities is based on scientific research and extensive evaluation. We want to find and support the best aid organisations because we believe that every life counts and that safeguarding the future of our planet is of deep importance.
Give to a fund or charity
Doneer Effectief offers three funds: Poverty and Health Fund, Climate Fund and Animal Welfare and Food Transition Fund. If you donate to one of these funds, we will combine your gift with gifts from other donors who have donated to the same fund. Each quarter, we determine which top charity can use the money most effectively at that time. We are advised by experts from the independent evaluators we work with.
We treat your gift as if it were an investment – we periodically look at where you can get the most return. We “invest” your money in charities instead of shares and your return is high-impact instead of dividends. We decide where to direct your donation based on where it can do the most immediate good in the current situation. We rely on the advice of experts from the evaluation organisations to do this most effectively.
Benefits of donating to a Donate Effective Fund
The donations from the fund can adapt with changing circumstances. This is especially important for periodic donations over several years or for inheritances. As time passes there may be other charities that deserve preference based on our selection criteria. It is possible that a charity to whom you first made a donation may no longer be able to put further donations to the same use. In these cases, other charities will move to the top of the ranking.
With the fund, you can be confident that you are always donating to the best and most effective charity within your preferred field of interest.
