Marieke also serves as a board member at Effectief Altruïsme Netherlands (EAN) and is therefore able to facilitate close collaboration between the two foundations, including the wider effective altruism community. She has a background in business studies and health science and has experience as an implementation/IT consultant in the healthcare sector. Previously she used this experience to help professionalize EAN.
Even if you do not completely immerse yourself in effective altruism you can still have huge impact through your donations. I’m very excited to help introduce new audiences to the ideas of the movement and facilitate their involvement through their donations.
As a technical physician and health scientist, Daan has always been drawn to healthcare. After completing his PhD research on patients with Alzheimer’s disease, he now works as a capacity management consultant in a university hospital.
While participating in the Nationale DenkTank, I found out how important I think it is to approach and tackle problems based on analysis and systemic perspective. This also comes together in Effective Altruism.
As content specialist, Brendan fulfills the role of producer and host for Effectief Doneren, the podcast (available soon). Brendan has a bachelor’s degree in History (University of Groningen) and a master’s degree in Journalism (VU University Amsterdam). He is currently working as a multimedia editor at the Open University on educational content.
I was introduced to effective altruism through Sam Harris’ podcast episode with Will MacAskill. Later, a podcast by Rutger Bregman and Jesse Frederik brought it a little closer to home. By making a Dutch podcast I hope to have the same effect on others.
After her studies Liberal Arts & Sciences and Nutrition & Health, Eva became motivated to contribute to the health and happiness of others through sound evidence and analysis. Next to serving on the board of Doneer Effectief, she does this in her job as a healthcare consultant at the consulting firm Berenschot.
When I read about effective altruism somewhere in remote Rwanda, it gave me tools on how to really make a difference for another as a donor. Within Donate Effectively, I like to convey that to others.
Andrea is initiator and chairperson. She was a.o. medical advisor at the ZorgInstituut Nederland (at that time Ziekenfondsraad), GGZ-director, consultant and interim-manager. Andrea is trained as a physician, psychiatrist and social worker.
Coming from a health care background, I am familiar with evidence-based and cost-effective thinking and practice. As a donor, I want to know what works and how well. That’s why I started Doneer Effectief.
Jan studied philosophy, theology and social sciences. He obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on prophetic planning. Jan has worked in higher education as a director and as a consultant for ethics and educational development.
My studies and work all show my striving for justice and doing good for all. Effective Altruism fits in perfectly with this.
Dave is an entrepreneur focussing on making marketing data easily accessible within organizations of large A-brand manufacturers. He is also active as an investor in start-up companies.
My company helps clients to make optimal decisions based on sound analysis. Effective Altruism fits in seamlessly with this. By making conscious choices you can increase the social impact of donated funds many times over. I am happy to contribute to this!
Lotte recently completed her bachelor’s in industrial Design. During her graduation project she developed a tool that helps people to donate effectively. She is now pursuing a master’s degree in Human Decision Science.
I was always an idealist who wanted to do good. The effective altruism movement provided me with the rationalism, critical eye, and systematic approach that I often miss in many other efforts to create a better world.

Maria studied linguistics and Dutch as a foreign language at Moscow University. Ten years later she moved to the Netherlands. Her love of languages developed into a love of computer languages: now she works as a programmer and manager in IT.
