Giving What We Can

Giving What We Can (GWWC) was conceived by Oxford philosopher Toby Ord. He was inspired by the ideas of ethicists such as Peter Singer to donate a large part of his income to effective charities.

In 2009, Toby and fellow Oxford philosopher Will MacAskill founded Giving What We Can as an international community of people committed to effective giving.

The international Giving What We Can community currently has over 8,400 members. You can join Giving What We Can by signing a giving pledge.

The Pledge

The members of Giving What We Can have made a commitment with “The Pledge” to donate 10% of their income to effective charities for the rest of their lives. On the website of Giving What You Can you can sign The Pledge (GWWC, The Pledge). If 10% is too big a step for you, you can also start with a lower amount and for a shorter period.
